Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation

Overview

Located on the 5th Floor of the Hospital, the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation features 10 interconnected operating rooms designed according to cleanroom standards and compliant with stringent World Health Organization (WHO) requirements, including one-way traffic flow and antimicrobial flooring systems.

The operating rooms are divided into two categories:

– Positive-pressure operating rooms for surgical procedures requiring absolute sterility.
– Negative-pressure operating rooms for patients undergoing surgery for infectious conditions.

All operating rooms are equipped with advanced LED surgical lighting systems. The operating theatres, post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), and recovery rooms are designed to international standards, enabling the performance of highly complex procedures in Gastrointestinal Surgery, Urology, Cardiovascular Surgery, and Organ Transplantation.

An integrated telemedicine and live surgical transmission system allows domestic and international physicians and specialists to collaborate and provide real-time consultation during surgical procedures.

Medical Team

The Department is staffed by a highly qualified team consisting of one Associate Professor, PhD, Senior Physician; two specialist physicians in Anesthesiology and Resuscitation; one Specialist Level I physician; one physician currently undertaking advanced anesthesiology training at Viet Duc University Hospital; seven anesthesia and resuscitation technicians; eight surgical instrument technicians; and three professional nurses.

The Department is capable of simultaneously providing anesthesia services for four operating rooms with five operating tables, in addition to one gastrointestinal and respiratory endoscopy suite with anesthesia support. A dedicated post-anesthesia recovery area equipped with modern resuscitation and monitoring systems ensures optimal care for patients undergoing major and complex surgical procedures.

Techniques and Procedures

The Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation performs surgical procedures daily, with major surgeries accounting for the majority of cases. These include gastrointestinal and urological surgeries, otorhinolaryngology (ENT) procedures, gastrectomy, colectomy, hepatectomy, laser-assisted ureteral stone removal, urogenital surgeries, thyroid surgery, breast surgery, as well as anesthesia services for diagnostic and interventional gastrointestinal and respiratory endoscopy procedures (including airway foreign body removal and bronchial tumor biopsy).

In particular, the Hospital collaborates with Viet Duc University Hospital in performing complex surgical procedures involving hepatobiliary diseases, gastric disorders, and musculoskeletal conditions, such as total gastrectomy, partial hepatectomy, hip replacement surgery, and arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.

The Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation has successfully implemented numerous advanced and modern techniques in patient care. Supported by a team of leading anesthesiology and critical care specialists, including Associate Professor, PhD, Senior Physician Tran Thi Kiem, a lecturer at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy and former senior anesthesiologist at Bach Mai Hospital, as well as Specialist Level II Physician Bui Tan Thinh, former anesthesiologist at Viet Duc University Hospital, the Department provides high-quality anesthesia and perioperative care services. Their expertise and direct involvement in patient management have earned the trust of patients and contributed to the growing number of individuals choosing Hai Phong International General Hospital for treatment.
