The Department of Rheumatology, Nephrology, Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Hai Phong International General Hospital is located on the 13th Floor of the Hospital’s main building. The Department comprises three specialized fields: Rheumatology, Nephrology and Urology, and Allergy and Clinical Immunology. It provides both inpatient and outpatient diagnosis and treatment for patients with musculoskeletal disorders, kidney and urinary tract diseases, and allergic and immunological conditions. With a team of highly qualified physicians and healthcare professionals, combined with a professional and patient-centered approach, the Department is committed to delivering the highest level of satisfaction and quality care to every patient.

The Department of General Internal Medicine 2 at Hai Phong International General Hospital brings together a team of highly qualified and experienced physicians and nurses specializing in Rheumatology, Nephrology and Urology, and Allergy and Clinical Immunology. The Department continuously adopts advanced and modern treatment approaches to enhance the quality of patient care. Its physicians and specialists have graduated from leading medical universities in Vietnam, including Hanoi Medical University and Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy. They regularly participate in professional training and continuing medical education programs at major national referral hospitals such as Bach Mai Hospital, 108 Military Central Hospital, and Hanoi Medical University Hospital, as well as international medical institutions, ensuring that the Department remains up to date with the latest advances in internal medicine and maintains standards comparable to those of central-level hospitals.

The Department consists of 17 staff members, including 7 physicians (1 Doctor of Medicine, 5 Level I Specialist Physicians, and 1 Specialty-Oriented Physician) and 10 nurses holding university or college degrees in nursing.

The Department is led by Dr. Hoang Van Dung, MD, PhD, Resident Physician, Director of Internal Medicine Services at Hai Phong International General Hospital. Dr. Hoang Van Dung is a senior expert in Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Medicine. He worked at the Department of Rheumatology, Bach Mai Hospital, from 2005 to 2020 and has also supervised master’s theses and resident physician dissertations, while teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at Hanoi Medical University and other medical universities and colleges.

Hai Phong International General Hospital, in general, and the Department of General Internal Medicine 2, in particular, regularly welcome leading specialists from major central hospitals such as Bach Mai Hospital and 108 Military Central Hospital. These experts collaborate in weekly specialized consultations and treatment activities while transferring advanced medical technologies and techniques to optimize patient care and treatment outcomes.

The Department has a capacity of 40 inpatient beds and operates two Rheumatology clinics, one Nephrology and Urology clinic, and one Allergy and Clinical Immunology clinic within the Hospital’s Outpatient Department. It is equipped with two sterile procedure rooms that meet Ministry of Health standards and feature modern medical equipment, including a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) separation system and musculoskeletal ultrasound machines for ultrasound-guided procedures. In addition, patients benefit from multidisciplinary care and access to the Hospital’s advanced medical technologies, including 1.5 Tesla and 3.0 Tesla MRI systems, a 256-slice CT scanner, endoscopic ultrasound equipment, and a comprehensive laboratory system accredited to ISO 15189 quality standards.

Rheumatology

– Diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune inflammatory joint diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, and Still’s disease.
– Diagnosis and treatment of crystal-induced arthritis, including gout and pseudogout.
– Diagnosis and treatment of systemic autoimmune connective tissue diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), polymyositis, dermatomyositis, and systemic sclerosis.

– Disease-modifying therapy using conventional immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory medications for inflammatory arthritis and autoimmune diseases, including Methotrexate, Leflunomide, Sulfasalazine, Hydroxychloroquine, Mycophenolate, Cyclophosphamide, and Azathioprine.
– Biological therapy, representing one of the most advanced treatment approaches for autoimmune inflammatory arthritis and systemic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, and juvenile idiopathic arthritis. – Close collaboration with Orthopedic Trauma Surgery specialists in performing arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, vertebroplasty using bone cement, spinal fixation procedures, and knee and hip replacement surgery.
– Close collaboration with Urological Surgery specialists in the management of urinary stone disease, cystoscopy, endourological procedures, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, and treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
– Close collaboration with the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine to restore and improve musculoskeletal function and mobility.
– Close collaboration with Urological Surgery specialists in performing extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), percutaneous nephrolithotomy, retrograde intrarenal stone surgery, cystoscopy, and treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
– Close collaboration with the Hemodialysis and Blood Purification Unit in the management of acute kidney injury, acute exacerbations of chronic kidney disease, and end-stage renal disease.
