Overview

The Department of Emergency and Critical Care serves as the hospital’s frontline unit, responsible for receiving, triaging, and providing initial management for patients with acute medical conditions, traumatic injuries, and life-threatening emergencies. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the department ensures timely and effective response to all emergency situations.

Functions and Responsibilities

– Receive and triage patients according to the severity and urgency of their conditions
– Provide initial emergency resuscitation and stabilization
– Manage medical, surgical, and trauma-related emergencies
– Collaborate with specialty departments in the treatment and monitoring of patients
– Coordinate safe patient transfers and referrals when necessary

The department is staffed by a team of highly trained physicians and nurses specializing in emergency medicine and critical care. Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides specialized care for critically ill patients requiring advanced life support, including mechanical ventilation. Equipped with modern critical care technologies and advanced resuscitation capabilities, the ICU at Hai Phong International General Hospital is well-prepared to manage patients undergoing major surgical procedures such as liver abscess surgery, hip fracture repair, necrotic tissue surgery, pancreatitis, cholecystitis, kidney stone surgery, respiratory failure, and other complex operations. The unit also delivers comprehensive intensive care for patients with severe and life-threatening medical conditions.

Clinical Services

The Department of Emergency and Critical Care is equipped with 19 beds and operates continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring timely reception and management of emergency cases at all times.
The department is furnished with a comprehensive range of modern emergency and critical care equipment, including patient monitoring systems, mechanical ventilators, defibrillators, infusion pumps, electrocardiogram (ECG) machines, ultrasound systems, USCOM hemodynamic monitoring devices, and other advanced life-support technologies.
Patient assessment and management are conducted according to a priority-based triage system, enabling rapid evaluation of clinical severity, appropriate intervention planning, and reduced response times during the critical initial phase of care.
The department provides comprehensive emergency treatment for medical, surgical, and trauma-related conditions, particularly life-threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, shock, stroke, acute cardiovascular diseases, poisoning, and multiple trauma.
A wide range of emergency and critical care procedures are routinely performed, including airway management, respiratory support, emergency central venous catheter placement, continuous patient monitoring, and other advanced interventions tailored to each patient’s condition.
The department works in close collaboration with all clinical specialties across the hospital to ensure rapid intervention, optimize treatment pathways, and improve patient outcomes for critically ill patients.
Continuous professional education and emergency medicine training are actively maintained. The department also serves as a clinical training site for healthcare learners and trainees, providing hands-on practical experience in accordance with professional licensing requirements.
